Bryn Mawr College Athletics has announced that it will suspend competition for the 2025 lacrosse season as the program focuses on rebuilding for the future. This decision will allow the team to prioritize recruitment, player development, and long-term program sustainability after player health and safety concerns arose due to the small roster this semester.

"Following multiple conversations with our athletic trainers, coaching staff, and administrators, we have made the difficult decision to suspend competition for the remainder of the 2025 lacrosse season," said Cristina Fink, Director of Athletics. "We will focus all our energy on rebuilding the program. Shannon Algeo, our head coach, is creating the right culture and has made a great effort with recruiting, which puts us on the right path to having a successful lacrosse program."

Bryn Mawr did not compete in any games this season as the coaching staff and administration evaluated the best course of action for the program’s future. While stepping away from competition was difficult, the program remains committed to establishing a strong, competitive team in the coming years.

"As a coach, our commitment to focus on rebuilding is a strategic decision  for our team's long-term growth," said Head Coach Shannon Algeo. "This plan gives us more time to invest in creating a stronger, more competitive future. We're dedicated to developing our skills, fostering leadership, and building a cohesive team culture that will set us up for success in the coming seasons."

During this rebuilding period, players will continue to train, participate in strength and conditioning programs, and work closely with the coaching staff to prepare for the team’s anticipated return to competition in 2026. Recruiting efforts will remain a top priority as the program seeks to expand its roster and establish a sustainable structure for the future.

“The College is excited about the future of our lacrosse program,” said Provost Tim Harte.  “College administration supports the ongoing efforts to rebuild the team and make it stronger than ever.”

Bryn Mawr Athletics remains fully committed to the growth and success of its lacrosse program. With strong leadership, renewed focus, and a clear vision for the future, the team is poised to return stronger and more competitive than ever.
