Bryn Mawr Scores Four Goals in Strong Second Quarter

WILKES-BARRE, PA- Bryn Mawr fell to the Colonels of Wilkes University 13-8 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium. Despite the loss, Bryn Mawr's offense scored four goals in the second quarter, highlighted by first-year Addy Hansen recording a career high of four goals in her collegiate debut.

How it Happened:
  • The first quarter began with Olivia Terry securing the draw control. Wilkes opened the scoring at 10:19 with two quick goals. The Owls responded with goals from first-years Hansen at 8:34 and Annika Shankar at 7:40, leveling the score. However, Wilkes responded with goals later in the period. The first frame ended with Bryn Mawr trailing, 5-2.
  • The Colonels extended its lead early in the second quarter, scores at 13:42 and 12:28. The Owls responded with a goal by Hansen at 8:34, narrowing the deficit. Bryn Mawr found momentum with Elliott Bishop scoring twice, at 3:50 and again at 2:55, the latter assisted by Maeve DeLisle, who set a career high 5 shots during the game. Hansen scored again at 1:02, closing the quarter's scoring. Brynn Cunningham's four saves were crucial in keeping Bryn Mawr within striking distance, the first-year goalie recording 10 saves on the day, a career high. The Owls went into the half-time break behind, 8-6.
  • Out of the break, Wilkes took control early with a goal at 12:41, extending their lead. Bryn Mawr responded with Bishop scoring at 8:41, aided by a successful clear attempt from Cunningham. Bishop notched a career high of 6 shots on goal during the game. Hansen then narrowed the gap further with a goal at 5:12, forcing a Wilkes timeout. The Colonels came back strong, two players finding the back of the net to rebuild their lead. In the final minute, the home team scored again, to close the quarter with Wilkes leading, 12-8.
  • The Owls struggled to make headway in the fourth quarter, despite DeLisle's efforts in draw control and ground ball pickups. Persistent turnovers hindered their progress. Wilkes capitalized on a ground ball pickup and converted to a score at 9:53, extending the home team's lead. The Owls called a timeout at 6:06 to regroup, but a subsequent shot by Terry was saved. With a final push, Bryn Mawr saw a last-second attempt by Bishop saved off a free position shot. The game ended with Bryn Mawr falling, 13-8.
