BRYN MAWR, PA- Bryn Mawr lacrosse secured a 12-9 victory over Centenary University on Wednesday afternoon on Applebee Field. This marked Bryn Mawr's first win since 2023 and Head Coach
Shannon Algeo's inaugural victory as the Owls' head coach. The Owls' offense was powered by a third-quarter surge, netting four goals to build a lead that Centenary could not overcome. The team also achieved a season high of 26 ground balls and registered a season high of 23 shots on goal in the game.
How it Happened:
- The game began with Centenary taking an early lead as the Cyclones scored a man-up goal at 13:52. Maeve DeLisle quickly responded for the Owls, equalizing at 10:26, scoring her first goal of her collegiate career. The sophomore went on to score a total of three goals throughout the game. Elliott Bishop then put Bryn Mawr ahead with a goal at 8:41, and Olivia Terry extended the lead 3-1 with a goal assisted by Shannon Gonzalez, marking Gonzalez's first assist of her career, at 6:39. Centenary narrowed the gap with a goal at 4:59. Bishop added another for the Owls with a man-up free position shot at 3:20. The Cyclones scored late in the quarter at, leaving the Owls leading 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.
- Addy Hansen initiated the scoring for the Owls in the second quarter with a goal at 12:48, marking her fifth of the season and scoring at least two goals for two consecutive games. DeLisle widened the gap with a free position goal at 6:58. Centenary responded with a man-up goal at 5:49, followed by another goal by at 4:42, leveling the score. Centenary gained the lead with a man-up goal at 2:21. However, Hansen scored again as time ticked down, bringing the Owls ahead 7-6 heading into halftime.
- The Owls dominated during the third quarter, starting with an early goal by Bishop at 14:30. This goal was part of Bishop's standout performance, scoring 4 goals, marking a career-high, and notching 1 game-winning goal, a career-best. Centenary responded with a goal assisted at 13:48, bringing the score closer. However, the Owls quickly regained momentum with Terry scoring at 13:14, followed by another goal from Bishop at 8:23. DeLisle, assisted by Bishop, added to the Owls' tally at 5:05, solidifying the home team's advantage. Despite multiple saves by Centenary's goalie, Bryn Mawr finished the quarter with a 4-1 scoring run, leading 11-7 at the end of the frame.
- In the fourth quarter, the Owls maintained their lead despite Centenary scoring first with a man-up goal at 12:29. Bryn Mawr fired back with a goal from Terry, assisted by DeLisle, at 5:15, marking Terry's third goal of the season and her first time achieving this feat. Centenary added another goal at 1:21, but the Owls held strong defensively, aided by key turnovers caused by Bishop and Terry. Terry also collected a season high of 6 ground balls, contributing significantly to the team's defensive efforts. The home team walked away with the win, 12-9.
