Bryn Mawr College Athletic Alliance
Mission Statement
As the Bryn Mawr College Athletic Alliance, we are a group of student-athletes of Color dedicated to breaking down barriers and ensuring that all student-athletes of Color can thrive and succeed in an inclusive, accessible environment. We aim to provide resources and spaces to empower student-athletes of Color through their experiences, progress, and achievements. We aim to celebrate student-athletes of Color, their accomplishments, and their contributions to Bryn Mawr Athletics and Bryn Mawr College. We aim to collaborate with other women/students on campus to uplift the voices of the often invisible members of Bryn Mawr College. We aim to ensure that all students are notified and aware with full transparency of the plans of BMC Athletic Administration to combat racism in athletics and the institution as a whole. We do this to make this game, everyone's game.
Acknowledgments
The establishment of Bryn Mawr Athletic Alliance could not have been possible without the work of the Black and brown women who have tirelessly made the efforts to advance the anti-racist goals within the Athletic Department at Bryn Mawr College. We honor the endeavors made by, Nolan Julien '18, Brendan Harrison '20, Meagan Murray-Bruce '20, Sydney Garner '20, and Jackie Fernandez '21 who spearheaded the anti-racist efforts within the Athletic Department these past few years that led to the establishment of Bryn Mawr Athletic Alliance.
We also honor the efforts of the Black and brown women at Haverford College, Jessica Lopez '21 and Jasmine Reed '22, who spearheaded the efforts to create Haverford Athlete of Color Coalition and to advance the anti-racist framework within Haverford College Athletic Department. We commemorate their courage in taking the initiative to create a space for athletes of Color to share their experiences within their respective sports. We also credit them for inspiring us to create Bryn Mawr Athletic Alliance at Bryn Mawr College.

We are, The Bryn Mawr Athletic Collective (Alliance)*, a club for scholar athletes of Color in the Bryn Mawr Community.Â
Â
We aim to celebrate the legacies of BIPOC scholar athletes, past, present, and future, who have, and will continue, to disrupt the elitist predominantly white environment of the Bryn Mawr College's athletic community and the white feminist atmosphere of the Bryn Mawr community at large.Â
Â
We aim to uplift the voices of BIPOC scholar athletes who, as a result of white supremacy, are not only marginalized because of their gender identity, but because of their racial/ethnic identity and other intersecting identities that do not align with the heteronormative, nationalistic, xenophobic, classist, and patriarchal society of United States' culture.
Â
We aim to account for the racial/ethnic disparities we see in the Bryn Mawr athletic community today, and we aim to account for the divide between the athletic community and the Bryn Mawr community at large.
Â
We aim to collaborate with other women/students on campus who have been burdened with uplifting the voices of the often invisibilized members of the Bryn Mawr community, such as, Sisterhood*, BACaSO, Mujeres*, Asian Students' Association, South Asian Society, Korean Student Association, ZAMI+, Mawrters for Immigrant Justice, and all other clubs who continue to provide the necessary resources to help members of the BIPOC community navigate an exclusive predominantly white affluent environment.Â
Â
We aim to provide the necessary resources, and spaces, for all BIPOC scholar athletes to successfully play the sport they enjoy while simultaneously implementing themselves as the successful scholars they are destined to be.Â
Â
We aim to diverge from white feminism, and instead, celebrate a more collective movement that acknowledges all individuals who are not the cis-man.Â
Â
We aim to continue to dismantle the systems that have resulted in the demographics of the predominantly white sports in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Â
We aim to implement these goals 'by any means necessary'.
Â
We hope you join us in progressing this movement.
