Brandywine, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr volleyball squad kicked off their 2014 season in a successful manner earlier Saturday afternoon at the Penn State Brandywine Tri-Match. The Owls swept both Brandywine and Wesley by scores of 3-0 in each match. Junior setter Danielle Preziuso had a busy day, totaling 48 assists over the two matches, while fellow junior Sarah Gates added 16 total kills.

Bryn Mawr started the morning match in dominant fashion against the hosts Penn State Brandywine, earning the three set sweep with scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-23. The team came out of the gates firing, and although the Nittany Lions came close to pulling out the third set, the overall result was never really in doubt. With a fluid, balanced attack, the Owls were able to run away with the first two sets. Caroline Cosby and Rachel Ofili each tallied 11 kills in the match, with Gates, Cosby and Ofili combining for seven total blocks.

Match number two of the afternoon went similarly to the first, as Wesley had no answer for the precision offense that Bryn Mawr displayed. Preziuso earned 28 of her total assists on the day in this match alone, meaning numerous Owls players had solid points at the net en route to the 25-19, 25-18 and 25-17 victory. Gates led the way in game two with nine kills, while Ofili added seven kills and seven blocks. Cosby recorded five more kills and six block assists herself. Meanwhile, junior Noemi Moreno had a huge third set, netting five kills alone in that frame.

With the pair of wins, Bryn Mawr opens their season to the tune of 2-0 and will look to extend that streak when they hit the hardcourt again on Wednesday night. The Owls will face a talented non-conference opponent in Arcadia, a team that Bryn Mawr has split four matches against since 2008. This year's contest will come at the Knights' home court on the 3rd, with things set to tip off at 7:00 PM.
