GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr swim program travelled to Gettysburg this weekend to compete in the pinnacle of their conference season, the Centennial Conference Championships. Only two days into the event, Bryn Mawr has already shattered two school records, one in the 200 medley relay and another in the 400 medley relay. Throughout the weekend, 16 Bryn Mawr athletes will compete across numerous events for their shot in the finals, including three top-eight Bryn Mawr swimmers Teagan Rooney, Vivian Sandifer, and Kelly Peterson.
The meet began on Thursday evening with the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay. Right off the bat, Maya Madden, Maddie Sullivan, Jane Farrell and Grace Wing swam in the 200 medley relay to break the previous school record with a time of 1:51.74. Bryn Mawr's second wave, Melanie Golden, Katharine Briggs, Emmy Wisz, and Kelly Peterson finished with a time of 1:58.37. Two groups of Owls competed in the 800 freestyle relay. First to finish for Bryn Mawr were Vivian Sandifer, Kelly Peterson, Felicia Pursner and Teagan Rooney (8:27.73). Bethany Rutkowski, Rachel Adlai-Gail, Emmy Wisz and Melanie Golden followed with a time of 8:48.97.
Bryn Mawr returned bright and early on Friday morning to compete in the second day of the championships. Vivian Sandifer (5:30.59), Felicia Pursner (5:40.50) and Bethany Rutkoswki (5:51.58) began the morning with the 500 freestyle. Bryn Mawr's next event was the 200 IM with Jane Farrell (2:24.98) leading the pack. Zoe Miller (2:30.22) was the second Owl to finish, closely followed by Rachel Adlai-Gail (2:32.22) and Rachel Shwartzer (2:34.11). Rounding out the morning session was the 50 freestyle event. First-year Grace Wing had a stand-out performance, leading her teammates and setting a personal record of 24.77, besting her own previous top-10 school record of 24.85. Five Owls followed suit, each earning a new personal record: Maddie Sullivan (26.64), Katharine Briggs (26.77), Emmy Wisz (27.54), Madeline Lee (27.55) and Kayla Bass (29.09).
Bryn Mawr returned in the evening for the finals of the 400-medley relay. Finishing in seventh place was Maya Madden, Teagan Rooney, Jane Farrell and Grace Wing. Their time of 4:08.91 earned the Owls their second school record of the meet. Melanie Golden, Maddie Sullivan, Kelly Peterson and Felicia Pursner was the second Bryn Mawr group to compete in the event, finishing with a time of 4:17.79. The Owls finished the second day of competition in seventh place, leading McDaniel by 18 points.
Bryn Mawr will return tomorrow morning for their third day of competition in the Centennial Conference Championships.
