Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Owls' soccer program traveled to Mary Washington on Saturday to play their final game of the season. Overall, Bryn Mawr took five shots and made 14 saves, but the Eagles took the win 4-0.
First-year Natalia Chorzepa took the net for her 11th start of the season hoping to halt the Mary Washington offense. Bryn Mawr had a slow start with Mary Washington maintaining possession in the first 12 minutes of the half. First-year Daniela Dosen made the Owls' first shot quickly after taking possession, however Dosen's shot lacked power and was easily stopped by the goalkeeper. Mary Washington's offense pressed deep into the Owls' territory and held possession for the next eight minutes. Chorzepa managed three saves to stymie the Eagle's offense. Once the Owls regained control, senior Koren Woznicki took a shot right before the 20-minute mark, but to no avail.
Minutes later, the Eagles had another opportunity after a Bryn Mawr foul. Four Bryn Mawr players formed a wall between the Mary Washington shooter and Chorzepa in net. However, the shot soared over the Owls' heads and Chorzepa was unable to make the stop. Washington's second goal came minutes later at 31:30. Chorzepa threw herself to the ground to block a shot, but she couldn't corral the ball in time. It slipped through her fingers and Mary Washington midfielder Madison Bauserman kicked a follow-up shot into the back of the net. The Owls had their third shot of the game with 3:30 remaining in the half. Sophomore Sarah Lohrey took a free kick after a Mary Washington foul. First-year Jessica Johnson headed it towards the goal, but it lacked power and was saved by the goalkeeper. The half ended with Bryn Mawr trailing 0-2.
Bryn Mawr changed goalies for the second half. First-year Lucy Heyman stepped into the goal for her fourth game of the season. However, Mary Washington's offense came out aggressively, pushing the ball deep into the Owls' territory. Only a minute and a half into the second half, the Eagles were able to maneuver through the Owls' defense and Heyman was unable to stop the first shot. The Eagles returned to Heyman less than four minutes later, but she was unable to reach the ball before it soared over her head and into the top right corner of the net. Down 0-4, senior Paige Mastripolito attempted to get the Owls back in the game. She took two shots throughout the remainder of the game; however, her shots were not forceful enough to overcome the strong Eagles goalkeeper. Heyman held strong in net and continued to make saves to prevent Mary Washington from extending their lead, but the Owls were unable to make any offensive showing for the remainder of their final game. Final score Bryn Mawr 0, Mary Washington 4.
