Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Seniors Paige Mastripolito, Isabelle Kuszyk, Isabella Rowe, and Koren Woznicki stepped on to the field with both joy and sadness as they prepared to play their final game on Applebee Field. Each senior was a part of the starters for Saturday's game against Washington College.
Isabelle Kuszyk started off the game by passing it to fellow senior Isabella Rowe before it was kicked to a Washington College player who immediately shot the ball out of bounds. After the first play, the game was off to a quick start. Less than five minutes into play, Washington brought the ball to Natalia Chorzepa at the Owls' goal. A kick was made that pushed Chorzepa off to the right side of the goal post. However, Washington quickly found the ball again and Chorzepa was unable to get back in time to stop the Shorewomen from scoring the first goal of the game.
The teams continued to trade possession without a shot for the next ten minutes. Around 14:40, the Owls had their first chance to shoot. Bryn Mawr broke free at mid field. First-year Amanda Cruz gained possession of the ball from Washington. Cruz passed it to Mastripolito who shot it past the hands of the Washington goalie and into the back of the net to tie at the game at 1-1.
However, 15 minutes later, Washington broke the tie. Shorewoman Audrey Flanagan brought the ball towards the goal post to make a shot attempt. Maddie Cohen stopped Flanagan from taking her first kick, but the Shorewoman made an additional touch and shot it high over Chorzepa's hands for Washington's second goal.
The Owls' defense played a strong role towards the end of the half. Around six minutes left, Washington brought the ball towards the Owls' goal once again. Both teams fought around the net, but it was Bryn Mawr's defense who won each shot attempt and stopped the Shorewomen from scoring for a third time. The half ended with Bryn Mawr trailing behind by one goal.
The first 15 minutes of the second half were fairly uneventful for Bryn Mawr. Around 55:25, Cruz took a corner kick for the Owls', but Bryn Mawr was unable to put any pressure on Washington. The Owls continued playing offensively throughout the rest of the game. Daniela Dosen, Woznicki, and Mastripolito each made a shot, but none found its way into the back of the net.
Bryn Mawr's last chance to tie the game came at the 71-minute marker. Mastripolito picked up an out of bounds ball and threw it into play towards teammate Sarah Walker. Walker quickly passed it to Dosen who shot it towards the right-hand corner of the goalpost. However, the Washington goalie got her glove on the ball just enough to stop it from going into the net. This proved to be the Owls' last chance to break the tie before the clock hit zero.
Bryn Mawr will begin their last week of games on Tuesday for an away game against Swarthmore.
