Box Score HARRISBURG, Pa.- The Bryn Mawr soccer team took to the road Thursday evening for the first of their last two non-conference matches of the season, taking on Penn St.-Harrisburg at PSH Turf Field. While the Owls fell to the Nittany Lions 0-3, the game marked the return of goalkeeper Emma Ryan who picked up nine saves in the matchup, tying the single-game career record for the sophomore. Penn St.-Harrisburg's Rhyan Socash led the team with four shots, three on goal and nabbed one goal of her own.
While the Nittany Lions controlled much of the first half, the Owls' lone shot attempt came in the 7th minute from Monica Scotto who fired a shot that went out wide to the right of the goal. Penn St.-Harrisburg tacked on five more shots to their one from the 3rd minute, all from different players, but Ryan looked strong and healthy back in goal as she picked up saves off every shot, bringing her total to six going into the half.
The Nittany Lions showed no signs of setback after halftime as right out of the gate they'd fire off four shots, looking to net the first goal by either team of the game. However, with two shots out high and the other two saved by Ryan, the Owls remained very much still in the game as they also were on the hunt to put Bryn Mawr on the board. Unfortunately, Penn St.-Harrisburg was finally able to seal the deal and find the back of the net in the 57th minute as Socash landed her first goal of the year off an assist by Sydney Hemler to put the score up 0-1.
In the 62nd minute, the Owls hoped to find the equalizer and keep the Nittany Lions on their toes as junior Paige Mastripolito fired a rocket of a shot at Penn St.-Harrisburg's goalkeeper Delaney Shifflett, but the shot nailed the crossbar of the goal. The Nittany Lions responded with a shot in the 70th minute that flew just high of the goal and another in the 71st minute that was saved by Ryan, but third time was a charm as Sydney Armstrong net Penn St.-Harrisburg's second goal of the game in the 74th minute with an assist from Hannah Morrison.
The Nittany Lions kept the momentum going as just minutes later, they found the back of the goal yet again with a goal from Kyla Brossoit in the 76th minute. With 14 minutes remaining in the game, the Owls continued their search for any goal-scoring opportunity to avoid a shutout, but Mastripolito's solo shot remained the only chance of the second half as the clock ticked down and the Nittany Lions walked away with the win 0-3.
The Owls face their season finale this Saturday, October 30 as they travel across the Delaware to face FDU-Florham. Gametime is set for 3:00 PM.
