Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball team took a tough loss on the chin against Dickinson earlier Saturday afternoon, but it certainly was not due to a lack of effort. Bryn Mawr dropped a 3-0 decision to the hosts, but it was a competitive contest most of the way through. Junior libero Allie Nagelski tied the program record for most digs in a three-game match with 24 on the day in a fine defensive effort.
Bryn Mawr (6-11, 1-4 CC) was able to generate almost as many attacks on the day as Dickinson (7-12, 1-4 CC), as the two teams put up fairly similar attempt numbers. However, the Red Devils were able to convert those attacks to kills at a much higher rate than what Bryn Mawr generated. Dickinson took the first set in 25-21 fashion, as the Owls notched just one more kill (7) than their errors (6) in the set. The second set was a very tightly contested affair, as the two sides needed extra points to find a winner. Dickinson ultimately took the win in 28-26 fashion, and that ultimately took the wind out of the Owls sails on the day. The host Red Devils were able to breeze through the third and final set, completing the 3-0 sweep with a 25-14 win in the frame. Dickinson had their most effective offensive performance in that third set, posting 11 kills to just two errors in the frame to clinch the win.
Bryn Mawr was led by senior Rachel Ofili, who posted seven kills and a block assist on a relatively quiet afternoon of work. Noemi Moreno, Megan Kilmer, and Sarah Gates each chipped in another five kills apiece to lead the Bryn Mawr offense. Nagelski had a terrific defensive performance all day, recording 24 digs and adding a service ace as well on the afternoon. Dickinson was led by Lauren Ahern, who topped all scorers on the day with eight kills. Hannah Smith tallied 24 assists for the Red Devils in a solid performance.
Bryn Mawr will be right back in action as they continue their road trip next week. The Owls will travel to Chestertown, Maryland for a tough matchup against Washington College on Wednesday night. The Shorewomen are 12-7 overall this year, but only 1-3 so far in conference play. Wednesday's contest will be a crucial one when it comes to the Centennial Conference standings, and things will tip off at 7:00 PM on the Washington College campus.
