Bryn Mawr Falls On Road at Dickinson

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr soccer team's defense played another fantastic first half earlier Saturday, as the Owls pitched a shutout in the opening frame against Dickinson College. However, as has unfortunately become the norm in recent games for the Owls, their opponents stormed out of the gates in the second half to get a quick goal erase any momentum Bryn Mawr might have gained. Ultimately, Dickinson would protect home field with a 3-0 win over the Owls on the day. Bryn Mawr goalkeeper Aviva Kosansky had a terrific day, making a season-high 14 saves on the afternoon in the losing effort.

Bryn Mawr (2-10, 0-5 CC) was forced to play on their heels early, as Dickinson (6-4-2, 2-2-1 CC) controlled possession for a majority of the opening minutes of the game. Kosansky had to make two saves on the Red Devils' Angela Caya inside of the first ten minutes to keep the game scoreless. The Owls defense also did a great job at keeping some of the Dickinson shots away from the cage and forcing others to be taken from long distance. Although the Red Devils controlled the ball almost the entire opening 25 minutes, it was still a 0-0 game through that time frame.

The Owls got their first good offensive chance in the 30th minute, as the visitors were able to earn a corner kick. Haidyn Weight stepped up and sent the cross in, but the ball was immediately cleared away, and actually led to another Dickinson shot. Bryn Mawr was able to shut that chance down, and then the Owls would get their first shot a few minutes later. Madeleine Mark managed to get possession of the ball in the Dickinson end and fire a shot on goal, but the Red Devils' Charlotte Armour managed to make a fine save to preserve the shutout. The Owls got another corner a minute after that, but that turned out fruitless. Bryn Mawr also got the last chance of the half, as Weight rocketed a shot towards the net, but once again Armour was able to make the save, and that sent the teams into the half with the game still tied at 0-0.

Unfortunately, Dickinson must have found some formula at halftime to break through the stingy Owls defense, as just over eight minutes into the new half, Briona Davis would put the hosts ahead with an unassisted goal. Bryn Mawr tried to respond, but Alexandra Wiegel's shot midway through the half went harmlessly wide of the cage. Dickinson would double their lead in the 64th minute, and then Davis would provide one last insurance goal in the 68th minute to complete her brace and close out the scoring for the day.

Bryn Mawr will try and get their offense going again when they get back in action next week. The Owls will close out their current road trip with a journey down to Chestertown, Maryland for a game against Washington College. The Shorewomen are currently 3-6-1 on the year and are in the midst of a two-game losing streak after losing 1-0 to Muhlenberg earlier this afternoon. This year's game between the Owls and Shorewomen will take place on Wednesday, October 14th, with kickoff slated for 7:00 PM at Washington College.
