Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Visiting Goucher College tallied two goals less than five minutes apart in the second-half to defeat the Owls 2-0 in a non-conference showdown Sunday afternoon.
Following a first-half that was controlled by the Gophers, Bryn Mawr's resilience kept them within striking distance throughout the whole half. The Owls' best chance to get on the board in the first-half came from a free-kick by junior Marian Slocum. As she sent the direct kick onto goal, it was heading over the hand of goalie Juliana Harkavy before the ball caught the crossbar and careened over the net.
Heading into the half with the score tied at 0-0 was sign of relief for Bryn Mawr as Goucher's Moriah Sipczky had an empty-net shot that she send just wide left of the goal.
Bryn Mawr and Goucher started the second-half in similar fashion to the first-half ended, with both team battling back-and-forth. The Gopher's Lindsey Puopolo broke the tie in the 59th minute when she lofted a shot from the right side of the field over the outstretched hand of senior goalie Valentina Viertel.
Less than five minutes later, Stephanie Budrock fed Samantha Turner as pass to the box which she got past a diving Viertel to give Goucher a 2-0 lead with just under 30 minutes to play.
Four minutes later, it was Slocum again vying to get the Owls on the board way of a free-kick but this time it was Harkavy punching the ball over the net to keep her shutout intact.
Bryn Mawr took 11 shots on the afternoon led by Slocum with three. Junior Allegra Levy and freshman Madeleine Mark each added two shots. Viertel turned away 10 shots between the pipes.
The Owls will travel to the Boston area next weekend as they square-off against Seven-Sister foe Wellesley on Saturday, Sept. 7, for a 1:00 pm contest before traveling to Babson on Sunday (1:30 pm).
