Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – Sophomore Rachel Ofili set a career-high Thursday evening as she tallied 23 kills as the Owls defeated Dickinson College 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 25-20, 15-25, 15-8) in Centennial Conference action.
After winning the opening set 25-19, the hot Red Devils battled back in the second set to tie that match 1-1 with a 25-16 win. The Owls rebounded in the third set as they cruised to the 25-20 win. In the fourth set, Dickinson downed the Owls to force the fifth and final set.
After jumping out to a 7-1 lead in the final set, Dickinson started to mount a comeback but Bryn Mawr was perfect down the home stretch as they got the 15-8 win.
Bryn Mawr is now 2-2 on the season when a match has gone five sets. Their other win was a 3-2 win over PSU-Abington on Sept. 24. Their most recent 3-2 game was at the annual Seven Sisters championships where Mount Holyoke earned the victory.
Ofili hit .647 on the game with her 23 kills on 34 attempts. Junior Samantha Abbott also reached double-digits in kills with 16 while sophomore Sarah Gates added eight kills.
Junior Danielle Preziuso handed-out a game-best 48 assists while sophomore Zoe Holman lent a helping hand three times. Holman added 15 digs as Abbott and Preziuso combined for 17 digs.
The front line of the defense had a busy night as the Owls tallied 13 blocks; the third best team output for blocks in a five-set match all-time. Leading the way with nine block assists was Ofili. Preziuso added six block assists as Gates and classmate Noemi Moreno added three assists each. Moreno tallied Bryn Mawr's lone solo block on the night.
With the win, Bryn Mawr moves to 12-14 overall and 2-7 in conference action while the red Devils fall to 6-13 overall and 1-7 in league play.
The Owls will close out their 2013 schedule when they host rival Haverford College on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7:00 pm. That night will also be Senior Day.
