Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – In the annual Bi-Co showdown on the soccer pitch, the visiting Haverford Black Squirrels used a first-half goal to down the Owls 1-0 in Centennial Conference action Wednesday.
Bryn Mawr and Haverford did most of the battle in the midfield as a majority of the first-half was played on transition. Both teams exchanged shots during the opening frame but Haverford got on the board when Meg Boyer tallied an unassisted goal in the 38th minute. Boyer got the ball in a scramble in front of the net before making a move and getting her shot past sophomore goalie Aviva Kosansky.
The remainder of the first-half saw a pair of substitutions for both teams. The opening frame ended with the Fords holding a 1-0 lead.
The second-half played out in similar fashion to the first. A majority of play was once again in the midfield. Both teams had chances to score in the second-half, but were unable to capitalize.
The Fords held Bryn Mawr's offense at bay en route to their sixth win of the season.
The Owls took five shots on the day by five players. Sophomore's Kelli Breeden, Caitlin Homstad, Allegra Levy as well as junior Marian Slocum and senior Lindsey Crowe accounted for the Owls shots. Kosansky ended the day with nine saves while her defense posted a team save to keep the game within striking distance.
The Owls were outshot 26-5 while neither team had a corner kick.
The Owls are back to action when they travel to Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Oct. 19, for a 12:00 noon match-up with the Blue Jays.
