Box Score 2 BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr volleyball team split their home tri-match Tuesday afternoon by defeating Lancaster Bible 3-1 (25-10, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18) after falling to Gettysburg 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-12).
In the day's opening match against conference foe Gettysburg, the Owls flew within striking distance of the Bullets each game. In the opening set, Gettysburg dominated the opening but Bryn Mawr clawed back and pulled within six, 11-17, but the Bullets eventually won 25-16.
In the second set, the Owls fell behind 2-0 but bounced back and outscored the Bullets 12-2 to take a 12-4 lead. Gettysburg pulled within two, 22-20, but the Owls pushed on to win the set 25-23.
The Owls looked to be in control of the third set as they jumped out to a 9-2 lead behind the service of sophomore Noemi Moreno. The Bullets tied the game at 13-all, then went on a 6-1 run to take a 19-14 lead. Gettysburg kept pushing and eventually won the set 25-20.
The fourth and final set was all Gettysburg. They took a 6-3 lead and never looked back as they cruised to their 11th win of the season.
Leading the Owls with 10 kills each was the freshman tandem of Sarah Gates and Rachel Ofili. Junior Danielle Preziuso handed-out 36 assists and tallied 11 digs while sophomore Zoe Holman added 21 digs.
Ofili ended the match with three total blocks while junior Samantha Abbott and Preziuso added a pair each.
In the night cap, the Owls rolled to a 3-1 win over the Chargers from Lancaster Bible. Bryn Mawr dominated the opening set as they built a 7-0 start to the match. The Chargers pulled within six, 12-6, before Bryn Mawr outscored LBC 13-4 to take the first set.
In the second set, steady back-and-forth play by both teams saw the set favor both teams. The Owls controlled the opening half of the set before it was tied up 14-14. Lancaster Bible took a 15-14 lead and never looked back as they outdistanced themselves form the Owls to take the 25-20 victory.
The third set saw a similar 25-20 final score, but it was Bryn Mawr taking the win and holding a 2-1 lead heading into the eventual final set. In the final set, Lancaster Bible took the lead early and held on to it until Bryn Mawr tied the game at 15-all with a kill from Abbott. From the point, steady offense and stellar defense held them Owls outscore the Chargers 10-3 and pick-up their 11th victory on the season.
Against the Chargers Ofili posted 19 kills while Gates added ten. Abbott and junior Ellen Chiu chipped-in with eight and seven, respectively. Preziuso tallied 46 assists while Moreno and Holman tallied 13 digs each.
Bryn Mawr is back to action when they travel to Baltimore, Md., for a match-up with Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 12:00 noon.
