Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College soccer team opened up league play Wednesday afternoon as they battled to a 0-0 draw with the Shorewomen of Washington College.
Defense was the key to the game for both squads' Wednesday on a wet and soggy Applebee Field. Bryn Mawr's last line of defense posted three team saves in addition to junior goalie Rebecca Joseph's six while their counterparts posted one team save and goalie Tori Ripple turned away 8 shots.
In the first-half, Lizzie Robinson was in line to give Bryn Mawr a 1-0 but, but her shot was stopped on the end line by Jennifer Kiaris.
In the second-half, Washington had an opportunity of their own to break the deadlocked game when Katie Bradley's shot was turned away on a defensive save by freshman Lindsey Lyons.
Lyons added another defensive save with just over 21 minutes left in the game when she turned-away a shot by Paige Butler.
Marian Slocum provided the Owls with their third team save in the opening frame of over time when she cleared a shot by Kira Pancotti.
In the second session, senior Kathi Seto had a golden opportunity to give the Owls the win, but her header was tipped over the crossbar by Ripple with 53 seconds left
The Owls are back to action this Saturday, Sept. 24, when they take on the McDaniel Green Terror at 1:00 pm in Westminster, Md.
