NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Bryn Mawr Crew
capped off a successful fall season Saturday at the Seven Sisters
Championship Regatta in Northampton, MA, hosted by Smith College.
The Owls took home fifth place at the annual event.
Wellesley won the championship for the third consecutive year
with a team score of 40 points, followed by Simmons with 30 points,
Mount Holyoke with 22, Smith with 20 and Bryn Mawr with 6.
Bryn Mawr was extremely pleased with their results in the
Varsity 8 event, despite the last place finish, with their huge
improvement over their time from previous years. The Varsity 8
finished with a time of 18:59, just 10 seconds behind Smith
(18:49), 14 seconds behind Simmons (18:45), 33 seconds behind Mount
Holyoke (18:26) and 77 seconds behind the winning Wellesley 8. Last
year, Bryn Mawr finished 79 seconds behind the fourth place
finisher, and 107 seconds behind the winner, Wellesley, so the team
and Coach Gabi Cipollone were very happy with their improved
speed.
The Novice 8 also placed 5th in their event, with a time of
24:28. Wellesley placed first in the event with a time of 20:08,
with Simmons, Mount Holyoke and Smith finishing behind them.
This regatta marked the end of the Owl's fall season, with
their spring season starting in February.
