LANCASTER, PA – The Bryn Mawr track & field team traveled to Franklin and Marshall this weekend to compete in the Centennial Conference Championships. Junior
Jess Johnson made history as she set the school record in the triple jump with an attempt of 10.93m and placed 4
th in the finals. After a strong day of competition, the Owls finished above both McDaniel and Franklin and Marshall.
Highlights:
- SPRINTS/HURDLES: Awurabena Anane set the tone for the Owls early in the day as the sophomore sprinter qualified for the finals in the 60m dash with a new PR of 8.09. Senior captain Kayla Camille also set a PR in the same heat, running 8.30s. First-year Mika Heshiki dropped almost a half second in the 60H in her championship debut, running 9.99s in the trials and breaking 10s for the first time. The performance moves Heshiki to second on the all-time leader board for the Owls in the 60m Hurdles.
- JUMPS: Two Owls made the finals in the triple jump for the first time in the past decade. Molly Fancher jumped a PR of 10.18m to advance and finished 8th, while Johnson landed the school record on the last attempt of the finals. The new school record of 10.93m was strong enough for 4th place. Fresh off a new PR in the hurdles, Heshiki cleared the first three heights in the pole vault to finish with a mark of 2.57m. The mark was Heshiki's second best performance of the season.
- THROWS: Nora Steil finished off an impressive season in the weight throw with an attempt of 10.71m. While not a PR, the throw marks the most times an Owl has thrown over 10m in the weight throw in a single season.
- MULTIS: Dahlia Nemes was the first Owl on the track this year at the Championships. Nemes blazed through the 60H with a time of 11. 21s, just fractions of a second off her PR. She then landed a solid 1.20m jump at the high jump, before tossing a new PR in the shot put (6.41m). The long jump saw Nemes stick another solid performance (4.15m), leaving only the 800m left between the first-year and a new Pentathlon PR. True to form, Nemes took an aggressive position in the 800m and ultimately landed a new PR of 2:53.13.
- RELAYS: The distance medley relay team of Sohini Sarkar, Shelbey Lu, Emma Smirk, and Megan McDonald finished 9th with a time of 15:11. The 4x200m relay team of Heshiki, Camille, Novy Goetgeluk, and Anane, recorded an impressive time of 1:51. The mark was strong enough for 5th place. The Owls finished the first day of the Centennial Conference Championships in the 4x800m, where the team of Lauren Kitay, Cora Rosin, Eva Ackley, and Malin Just finished 7th with a time of 10:09.
