COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Bryn Mawr indoor track and field team started their season on Saturday morning at the Bow Tie Invitational hosted by Ursinus College. The Owls had a strong showing in their first meet of the season, with a new school record by Jess Johnson in the triple jump (10:48m) and four event wins by Awurabena Anane, Jess Johnson, Eva Ackley, and Malin Just. The Owls also brought home 14 Centennial Conference qualifying marks, 11 personal records (PR), seven collegiate personal records, and two indoor personal records.

Highlights:

  • SPRINTS: Sophomore Anane hit the track Saturday morning with a new PR in the 60m dash (8.15s) taking first in prelims and doubling down with a first place finish in finals (8.15s, PR, Q). The sophomore from Boston added accolades in the afternoon earning a first-place finish and a new PR in the 200m as well. Anane's time in the 200m (27.74s, PR, Q) was also fast enough to qualify her for Centennial Conference Championships. In addition to the wins by Anane, Senior captain Kayla Camille ran 8.56s in the 60m dash to advance to the finals. There, the duo ran 8.49s and 9.05s respectively. Camille's time qualified her for Centennial Conference Championships and her finals time was a new PR. In the 200m, Mika Heshiki (29.11s) and Autumn Williams (29.83s) each earned a college PR. PRs were also earned by Dahlia Nemes (29.97s) and Nora Hunter (33.02s).
  • HURDLES: The hurdlers were also on point with Heshiki earning a collegiate PR in 10.81s and punching her ticket to her first Centennial Conference Championships, while Nemes ran 11.54s for a new PR and finished fifth in the finals.

  • FIELD EVENT: Over at the triple jump, Johnson bested her own triple jump school record, setting a new record at 10.48m and earning another win for the Owls. Prior to her new school record in the triple jump, Johnson began the day in the high jump. The junior jumped 1.45m clean with no misses before tying with Ursinus' Amanda Traska. With both athletes missing at 1.50m, the event went to a tie-breaker where Johnson missed and Traska cleared leavening the junior captain with her first Centennial qualifying mark and a second place finish. Johnson would go on to finish second in the long jump, with Molly Fancher getting ninth. Both athletes also qualified for Championships in the long jump. Fancher joined Johnson on the podium over at triple in third place with a jump of 9:95m, which was good enough to qualify Fancher for Championships. Nora Steil earned a fourth place finish at weight throw with an attempt of 10.64m, hitting her qualifying mark right away. She followed up with a throw of 8.57m in shot put for 11th place.

  • DISTANCE: Lauren Kitay and Sofie Prieto led the endurance squad into the season opener, with the 5k. Kitay finished in 19:11.78 while Prieto earned a new PR in 19:49.24. Both qualified for Centennial Conference Championships. Senior captain Just earned her win in the mile (5:29.91), which included multiple lead changes and a great kick from the senior mid-distance runner. Eva Ackley (11:33.11) added another win to the Owls' tally, with a new PR in her 3k debut. Adding to the success of Just in the mile, Megan McDonald and Emma Smirk ran PRs while Alyson Bostrom ran a college PR. Over in the 800m, Mckayla Reyer earned an indoor PR (2:57.71) and Lauren Pritt and Emma Smirk both earned college PRs. Ackley was joined in the 3k by Rosa Carbon (11:45.88) and Lena Arany (12:44.10) both of whom ran PRs.

  • RELAYS: The first year Owls challenged the returners to the 4x4 to finish off the meet. The returner team of Fancher, Just, McDonald and Kitay finished second with a season best of 4:34.85. The first years put up a valiant effort, running 4:52.24, and beat the Arcadia 'B', St Mary's 'B', and Rutgers 'A' teams for fourth place.
