STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Owls rose to the occasion earlier Friday at the Seahawk Shootout as three Bryn Mawr athletes brought home a school record. Hot off her mile and 400m PRs at Ursinus, Malin Just took down the 15 year old record inthe 600m by over two seconds, running 1:42. 21. The previous record was made back in 2009 by Akua Nyah-Mensah. Lauren Kitay was the next Owl to strike, claiming her first school record in the 1000 meters at 3:05.74. Kitay took the top spot from Claudia Keep who set the record in 2013.  Moments later, Jess Johnson (10.80m) was back at it, taking down her own school record in the triple jump from last week.

Highlights:
  • Sprints: Mika Heshiki earned the first PR of the day running 10.64s in the 60 hurdles. Shelbey Lu (8.93s) and Molly Fancher (8.94s) just missed the Centennial Conference qualifier mark in the 60m, but both set new PRs in the event. Autumn Williams also PR'd with a time of 9.15s. In the 300m, Fancher (47.72s) returned with another PR, as did first-year Dahlia Nemes (49.21).
  • Jumps: Johnson returned to the runway after a school record setting performance last week, only to set the record again this week. In her second attempt, she jumped 10.80m, improving her record by 32 cm. The junior captain was joined by teammate Fancher who matched her PR in a jump of 10.00m. Earlier in the day, both Johnson (5.01m) and Francher (4.57m) set season bests in the long jump.
  • Throws: Nora Steil set a season best in shot put, throwing 8.99m on her second attempt.
  • Distance: Seniors Just and Kitay earned their first school records of the season. Just sprinted past the previous record in the 600m, running 1:42.21, while Kitay earned her spot in the record books in the 1000m, running 3:05.74. Just was joined by Megan McDonald (1:57.01), Phylicia Cannon (2:02.25), and Emma Smirk (2:11.87), all of whom set PRs. Cora Rosin (3:30.41) set a season best in the 1000m. Earlier in the day, a trio of milers tucked under the 6:00 minute barrier for the first time. Eva Ackley was the first Owl to the tape, running 5:45.75. Rosa Carbon (5:50. 07) and McDonald (5:53.06) also tucked under for the first time and all three set PRs at the historic distance. A fourth Owl landed a PR in the mile, as Lena Arany finished in 6:21.4, while Mckayla Reyer (6:15.85) set a collegiate PR.
  • In total, the team earned five updated conference qualifying marks, 17 personal records, four season bests, one Indoor PR, one college PR, and three school records.
The team will be back in action in the new year on Friday, January 10th as Bryn Mawr travels to Lebanon, PA to compete in the Lebanon Valley Invitational.
