LANCASTER, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr indoor track and field program competed in the second day of the Centennial Conference Championships at Franklin and Marshall earlier Sunday morning. Senior
Margaret Hardigg had a strong performance at the high jump, finishing fourth in her main event. The 4x400 meter relay team of Sofie Prieto, Lukabed Bati,
Marien Richardson and
Sofi Guven wrapped the day for the Owls with a season best.
Three Owls - Hardigg,
Jessica Johnson and
Colby Rossmassler - qualified to compete in the finals of the high jump. Rossmassler began the event for Bryn Mawr, clearing a 1.29m on their first attempt. They were joined by Johnson and Hardigg with all three clearing the 1.34m jump on first attempts. Unfortunately, Rossmassler and Johnson were unable to clear the 1.44m jump, but Hardigg continued with clean jumps through the 1.54m. At the 1.54m, Hardigg almost reached a height of 1.59m to break her own school record, but could not manage a clear. However, she finished fourth overall in the event as the leading point scorer for the Owls at this season's Championships.
Earlier in the day, Johnson returned to the runway for the second of three jumping events. Johnson managed three solid jumps on subsequent attempts (4.60m, 4.65m and 4.64m), but it was not enough to make the finals.
On the track side,
Madeleine Yao posted her second fastest time of the season in the 400m (1:07.34s) and
Lauren Kitay did the same in the mile (5:29.07). Both were less than a second off their personal records.
The Owls rounded out the meet with the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Prieto, Bati, Richardson and Guven ran 4:41.92 for their fastest time of the season.
"This team has had great energy all weekend and has really capitalized on every moment they could," said Owls head coach
Jason Hewitt. "I'm really proud of how they finished up the season and the successes we found this weekend. I can't wait to see what they do with the season to come!"
The Owls will now gear up for the outdoor season, which is slated to start on March 25
th at the Golden Ram Squad Meet hosted by West Chester University.
