Box Score Bryn Mawr faced Immaculata on Tuesday on the Owls' home court with Bryn Mawr conquering Immaculata in a five-set thriller. Throughout the match Bryn Mawr racked up some impressive stats with five aces by senior Sydney Collins and 16 kills by first-year Elise Perry. Immaculata battled hard, but in the end the Owls' earned a 3-2 (25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 12-25, 15-9) win.
Sydney Collins hit an early ace in the first set, making it the senior's third ace of the season. Collins would continue to serve four more aces throughout the match. Bryn Mawr and Immaculata fought head-to-head before Owls took a seven-point lead at 21-13. However, the Mighty Macs fought back closing the gap to 22-19 with Bryn Mawr still in the lead. After attack errors by Bryn Mawr and kills by their opponent, it looked like Immaculata might make a comeback. Thankfully for Owls after multiple long and grueling points, Bryn Mawr came out on top to take the first set 25-22.
Immaculata came back with a vengeance in the second set taking an early 6-2 lead. It looked like the Mighty Macs might run away with the set, but Bryn Mawr went on a six-point streak with kills by first-years Micah Sheppard and Elise Perry and a service ace by Sydney Collins. Perry hit her first service ace of the game to tie the second set 11-11, but Immaculata continued their strong play to win the second set 25-16 and tie the match 1-1.
The third set began in exciting fashion with Bryn Mawr and Immaculata trading points before the Owls captured a small lead 14-11. Sydney Collins returned from the timeout with two immediate serving aces in a row on Immaculata. The Mighty Macs fought back to tie up the third set, eventually taking a 21-19 lead before Zoe Boxill took a giant leap with a kill, followed with another kill by senior Sydney Munnerlyn. The Owls once again took the lead, this time 23-21 before closing the set 25-21 for Bryn Mawr.
Owls came in hot in the fourth set with diving digs by Sydney Collins and first-year Anna Dravk, as the Owls take an early 4-3 lead. Unfortunately for Bryn Mawr, Immaculata stepped up their game and the Owls missed two kills in a row causing Bryn Mawr coach Hayley Kirby to call a timeout with Immaculata in the lead 11-7. Bryn Mawr dropped four points in a row as the score became 15-8 in the Mighty Macs favor. The fourth set ended in a win for Immaculata as the Mighty Macs were the stronger team that set, winning 25-12.
Both teams traded points again in the fifth and final set as it looked like either team may take the win. After a long rally in the fourth point, Elise Perry finally hit a kill for an early tie of 2-2. After a beautiful save dug by Sydney Collins, the Owls' lead grew to 6-4, winning one more point before Immaculata took a timeout. The Owls and crowd erupted in an enormous cheer as Micah Sheppard hit an incredible kill, giving Bryn Mawr a 12-8 lead. The match ended in a kill by Elise Perry with a final score of 15-9 in the fifth set.
This is Bryn Mawr's first win over Immaculata since 2018 and the Owls now lead the series 17-15 against the Mighty Macs. Bryn Mawr moves to 2-1 in the season and the Owls return on Saturday at 11 A.M. for a home tri-match, this time facing Cairn and Rosemont.
