Bryn Mawr's tennis program competed in their first match of the season this Saturday on the road against Rutgers-Camden. The Owls came out swinging winning their first match of the season 7-2, winning all three doubles and four singles matches.
The day began with the doubles lineup. Sophie Fenster and Fernanda Hurtado were the first to step off the court, winning the Owls their first match of the day (8-5). Next, Wynn Bryant and Lowrey West stepped off the court winning their match with an 8-3 win. Kelly Cole and Gioanna Zhao gave the team their third doubles win at 8-2.
The Owls returned for singles eager for a first season win. Sophomore Lilly Pfister put up a great fight, refusing to give up a single game to win 6-0, 6-0. Next, came first-year Sophie Fenster who also didn't give up a single game during her match. Her 6-0, 6-0 win clinched Bryn Mawr's season opening win. Sophomore Fernanda Hurtado provided the Owls with their sixth win, winning her match 6-0, 6-4. Lowrey West gave the Owls their seventh win of the day in a hard fought three setter (5-7, 6-4, 10-6) at second singles. Wynn Bryant (first singles) and Kelly Cole (fourth singles) also competed today with close scores of 4-6, 4-6 and 5-6, 4-6 respectively.
Overall, Bryn Mawr beat Rutgers-Camden 7-2 to earn their first win of the season. Bryn Mawr will be on the road again on Wednesday to compete against Penn-St. Abington.
