Tennis Comes Up Short Against Lebanon Valley

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr tennis team came up short against Lebanon Valley College at Bryn Mawr Tennis Courts on Saturday.
 
Highlights:
  • Sonya Shutka and Ayanat Tolen got Bryn Mawr (1-2) the first victory of doubles action at the No. 2 slot with a 6-1 victory over Megan Martin and Katie Berra. Lebanon Valley College (2-0) clinched the doubles point with a pair of 6-4 wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
  • Singles' play saw the Flying Dutchmen pick up the first win with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.  
  • Shutka secured the first point for the Owls at No. 3 singles,  taking down Martin, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Bianca Vesuna then tied the match at 2-2 for Bryn Mawr collecting a win over Erika Badner, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 2 singles match.
  • LVC won at No. 5 singles as Maira McCartin put the Flying Dutchmen on the brink of victory.
  • Tolen battled at No. 4 singles, dropping the first set, 6-3, before leveling the match with a 6-3 set to force the tiebreaker. The first year secured a crucial point for the Owls, taking the tiebreaker 10-4.
  • Bryn Mawr ultimately fell short as Lebanon Valley clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the No. 6 singles match.
The Owls head to West Chester next as they close out their fall season against the Golden Rams on Tuesday, October 6 at 4 p.m.
