BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Owls tennis team was back in action earlier Friday afternoon, as Bryn Mawr welcomed one of the top teams in the region to campus in Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays are currently the #24 team in the country according to the latest ITA Coaches Poll, but that prestigious ranking didn't stop the Owls from giving it a good fight in the Centennial Conference showdown.

Lowrey West and Fernanda Hurtado teamed up at first doubles and again found a way to give their opponents some difficulty. West and Hurtado were able to win a game in their matchup, but ultimately lost an 8-1 decision. Kelly Cole and Wynn Bryant (second doubles) and Mary Rose Gilliand and Lilly Pfister (third doubles) each put up a good effort in their matches, but lost by 8-0 scorelines.

In singles, Bryant gave it a solid effort at the top spot, taking games in each of the two sets played. The sophomore battled it out with Johns Hopkins' Christina Huynh, but ultimately lost by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Kelly Cole, Lowrey West, and Mary Rose Gilliand all took tough 6-0, 6-0 losses in their singles matches, while Fernanda Hurtado was able to win a game in the opening set of a tough 6-1, 6-0 loss. Lilly Pfister had the other notable performance of the afternoon for Bryn Mawr, with the first-year winning games in each set of a 6-1, 6-2 loss.

The Owls will be right back in action on Saturday as they continue Centennial Conference play with a home matchup against Gettysburg. Gametime of that contest is slated for 12:00 PM on the Bryn Mawr tennis courts.
