BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Owls tennis team got their final week of action kicked off earlier Wednesday afternoon as they hosted Bi-College rivals Haverford for another Centennial Conference contest. Playing in their final home match of the 2021-22 season, Bryn Mawr battled hard the whole way through, giving the 36th-ranked Fords some tough points throughout the entire afternoon. However, the Fords ultimately hung on for a 9-0 victory on the day.
The Owls were able to take games in all three of the doubles matches that started off the day's action, the second time they have accomplished that feat in a conference match this season. Fernanda Hurtado and Mary Rose Gilliand grabbed a game in an 8-1 loss at third doubles that gave Haverford their first point of the day. Both Wynn Bryant and Kelly Cole and Lowrey West and Lilly Pfister won a couple of games in their matchups at first and second doubles, but each duo suffered 8-2 losses.
On the singles side, Haverford picked up another point early on due to a walkover. Bryn Mawr put up a strong effort in the rest of their singles contests, but the Fords were able to come away with a win in each of those matchups. Bryant, Cole, and West each won one game in one of their sets at the top three singles spots while Pfister was able to win a game in each of her sets at fourth singles. Gilliand put up a strong battle at fifth singles but her Fords opponent was able to grab a 6-0, 6-0 win at that spot.
The Owls will now wrap up their season with one last road matchup this week. Bryn Mawr has the bye in conference play on the last weekend of the regular season, so they will travel just down the street to Rosemont on Friday afternoon for one last non-conference contest this spring. Match time on Friday is slated for 3:30 PM on the campus of the Ravens.
