COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Owls tennis team was back in action earlier Saturday evening, as Bryn Mawr took on Ursinus in a road contest for the Owls. Bryn Mawr put together a strong effort throughout the evening, but it was the Bears who came away with the 7-2 victory in the match.
Ursinus got things off to a quick start with wins at second and third doubles, but the Owls battled back to pick up an important point at the top doubles spot. Lowrey West and Fernanda Hurtado combined to put together an impressive fight against their Bears opponents, ultimately pulling away to an 8-5 win at first doubles to draw within one of Ursinus headed into singles.
West continued her strong play in singles, getting the Owls' lone victory in solo play with a win at third singles. The first-year fought through a tough challenge from Caitlin Vinsonhaler in the opening frame before ultimately taking a 6-4 win in the first set. From there, West was able to coast home to a 6-1 win in the second set to take the victory in her match.
Wynn Bryant put up a tough fight across her two sets at first singles, losing 6-4 in the opening frame before taking the second set the distance but losing 7-2 in the tiebreak.Kelly Cole, Fernanda Hurtado, Lilly Pfister, and Mary Rose Gilliand all battled hard in their singles matches as well before coming up on the wrong end of the scoreline.
The Owls will be back in action next week with a home matchup against Swarthmore on Tuesday afternoon.
