CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Owls tennis team traveled to the eastern shore of Maryland earlier Wednesday for a battle against Centennial Conference foes Washington College. Bryn Mawr gave it a solid effort throughout the contest, but ultimately the Shorewomen came away with an 8-1 win on the day.
The Shorewomen got things started with an 8-0 win at second doubles over Wynn Bryant and Lilly Pfister. Lowrey West and Fernanda Hurtado found a little more success in an 8-1 loss at first doubles, and Kelly Cole and Mary Rose Gilliand gave it a strong effort in an 8-2 loss in third doubles.
Over in singles, the Owls picked up a point at sixth singles thanks to a default. The Shorewomen grabbed straight set wins in the other five matches on the card. Bryant, Cole, and Hurtado all fought hard in their matches but were unable to win a game in either set. West dropped a 6-0 first set, but managed to win a game in the second frame in a 6-0, 6-1 loss at third singles. Pfister had the most success in the scorebook in her matchup at fifth singles, winning games in each set in a 6-1, 6-2 loss.
The Owls will be right back in action on Saturday as they continue their road stretch with a trip to Franklin & Marshall. Match time in Lancaster is set for 12:00 PM on Saturday.
