BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Owls tennis team returned to their home courts earlier Friday afternoon for their first home matchup of the spring season, and the friendly confines and beautiful spring afternoon proved to be the perfect recipe for Bryn Mawr to pick up a big win. The Owls picked up a 9-0 win over Cabrini on the day, winning each of their nine matches in dominant fashion.
The Owls got things started with three wins in doubles play. Lilly Pfister and Mary Rose Gilliand got the day started with an 8-0 win at third doubles, easily blanking their opponents to pick up the first win of the day for Bryn Mawr. Lowrey West and Fernanda Hurtado paired up to take an 8-1 win at first doubles, while Wynn Bryant and Kelly Cole got exactly the same result at second doubles.
In singles action, it was Pfister and Gilliand getting things done early once again for the Owls. Pfister grabbed a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fifth singles and Gilliand posted a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles. Those two wins locked up the match result in favor of Bryn Mawr, but the hosts weren't done yet. Lowrey West earned another blanking in her match at third singles, completely smothering the play of her opponent en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Bryant nearly got a double-bagel of her own at first singles, taking a 6-1, 6-0 win on the day. Hurtado got into a bit of a battle against her opponent at fourth singles at times, but still controlled most of the play in a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Cole completed the 9-0 win for the Owls by battling through a 6-3 win in her first set at second singles before wrapping up the victory with a 6-0 second set win.
The Owls will now get a week between matches, as they will return to action next Saturday at home. Bryn Mawr will welcome Johns Hopkins to campus on the 26th for their first Centennial Conference contest of the season. That match is scheduled for a 10:00 AM start.
