Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – A beautiful Saturday afternoon posed the perfect setting for a soccer match as the Bryn Mawr Owls faced the #16 McDaniel Green Terror. While Bryn Mawr hoped to be the first team to score on the undefeated Green Terror this season, McDaniel had other plans, landing a season-high of four goals as the Owls fell 0-4. Goalkeeper Emma Ryan picked up nine saves in the contest, a career-high for the sophomore.
McDaniel wasted no time in taking control of the first half as leading scorer, Hanna Schepers, attacked first with a shot in the 2nd minute that went wide of the goal. Maddie Schwartz struck next for the Green Terror with a shot that'd hit the crossbar in the 4th minute. With the pressure coming, the Owls had to prepare for back-to-back corner kicks from McDaniel's Allison Storm, but with Schwartz in the right place at the right time, she'd find the back of the net off the second corner, landing her third goal of the season.
The Green Terror continued to bring the pressure as possession of the ball primarily remained on Bryn Mawr's side of the field. A flurry of corner kicks from McDaniel tested the Owls' defense and Ryan, but she'd picked up two huge saves to keep the Owls within one. The next 15 minutes of play brought forth a balanced matchup as the Owls kept the pressure coming, forcing the ball to stay in the neutral zone. McDaniel found the opportunity to sway momentum in the 30th minute as they'd return the ball to the Owls' side of the pitch and unleashed a series of shots. Despite the effort, Ryan appeared cool, calm and collected, picking up three more saves. Bryn Mawr brought the heat in the final minutes of the first half with a shot from Elizabeth Kiely and back-to-back corners from Bernie Schintz but were unable to capitalize and went trailing by one into halftime.
While the Owls looked to bounce back in the second half, McDaniel quickly seized momentum as Jules Dotterweich took a penalty kick in the 48th minute that found the back of the net. Unfortunately, the dominance continued as two minutes later, a breakaway from McDaniel's Sara McDonald led to a three-goal lead as she'd sail the ball into the lower right corner. Despite the lead, the pressure continued on Ryan in the net, but she'd pick up two more saves, ensuring that another Green Terror ball wouldn't make it past her. Bryn Mawr's Elizabeth Kiely sought to put the Owls on the board in the 65th minute, but her shot flew high of the crossbar. With the clock winding down, McDaniel would unleash a game of keep-away with the win in sight, but not before Jessie Titus would take advantage of an empty goal to net the Green Terror's fourth goal of the game as they sealed the victory and remained undefeated.
The Bryn Mawr soccer team will finish September game play on the road as they face the Catholic Cardinals this Wednesday, September 29. Gametime is slated for 7:00 PM.
