Tennis Falls in Tough Season Finale at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr tennis team wrapped up their 2019 campaign earlier Saturday afternoon, as the Owls faced off against Swarthmore College. Bryn Mawr put up a strong fight throughout the day, but ultimately Swarthmore came away with a 9-0 win in the event.

Swarthmore got off to a fast start in doubles, with the Garnet picking up 8-0 wins at both second and third doubles. In first doubles, Amalia Parrish and Audrey Camacho put on a strong battle, but a few key points went the way of the Garnet, giving the hosts an 8-5 win in that match as well.

The Garnet were able to earn a couple of quick wins at sixth and fifth singles, starting the singles session with 6-0, 6-0 victories at both of those spots. Caroline Horvatits got off to an okay start in her third singles match, as she battled hard but came up on the short end of a 6-3 scoreline. However, her Garnet opponent buckled down in the second set, winning 6-0 to close out the match. Christina Xue was able to take a game in each of her two sets in a tough 6-1, 6-1 loss at fourth singles. Parrish was back at it at the top singles spot, nearly pulling off a win in the first set. However, her Garnet opponent also tightened up her play in the second set to close out a 6-4, 6-2 win. Camacho was the Owl who came closest to earning a win on the day, but she came up just short in a third set tiebreaker to suffer a difficult loss as well.

Despite the final result, today's effort by no means minimizes the fantastic work of the Owls this season. Bryn Mawr won their most Centennial Conference matches in a season since the 2006-07 campaign. Even more impressively, the Owls earned nine wins on the year, their second-most wins ever in a single season and most in a season since the 1982-83 campaign.

The Owls will continue working hard en route to their season starting back up in the fall.
