Tennis Posts Dominant Win Over Immaculata Thursday Afternoon

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr tennis team was back in action Thursday afternoon for their first road contest of the season. The Owls traveled down the road to Immaculata to take on the Mighty Macs in a non-conference tilt. After a tough loss in their season-opener last Saturday, Bryn Mawr looked to work out the kinks in today's match, and that's exactly what they did. A strong 2-1 start in doubles helped pave the way for a highly impressive singles performance that gave Bryn Mawr a 7-2 win on the day.

Lizzie Siegle and Hannah Sherman paired up at the top doubles spot and got Bryn Mawr started off great with a dominating 8-2 win. Francesca Caramazza and Abbygail Brewster were nearly as impressive at third doubles, as that duo won their match easily by a score of 8-3. Bryn Mawr almost completed the clean sweep of doubles thanks to the solid efforts of Mariam Haider and Sydney Kim at the second spot, but Immaculata hung on to win that match and keep the overall score close at 2-1 in favor of the Owls.

Bryn Mawr really showcased their hard work and effort as the match continued into singles. Lizzie Siegle hardly gave her opponent a chance to breathe the entire way through their second singles match. Siegle completely shut down her opponent in the opening set, then went on to lose just one game in the second frame to cruise to a 6-0, 6-1 win. Jennifer Laske had almost as easy a time at fifth singles, as the senior won 6-2 in the opening frame before winning her match with a 6-0 shutout second set. Sydney Kim posted the same scoreline at fourth singles in reverse. The sophomore bageled her opponent in the opening frame en route to a 6-0, 6-2 win. Hannah Sherman (6-3, 6-3) and Christina Xue (7-5, 6-1) also each posted dominating victories in their singles contests. The Owls almost got the clean sweep in singles, as Mariam Haider also threw down an impressive performance. After winning the first set 6-2, Haider nearly completed the victory in the second frame. However, Haider ultimately was forced to play her second three-set match of this young season, and once again the bounces just didn't go her way, as she ultimately lost a tough 2-6 7-5 10-6 decision in the end.

With the win, the Owls even out their record to 1-1 on the year. The team will be right back in action next Wednesday, October 4th at 4:00 PM for their final home match of the fall against Arcadia.
