Box Score 2 CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. - Thursday, October 19th the Bryn Mawr Volleyball team took their talents to Clarks Summitt, Pennsylvania for a tri-match against Clarks Summit University and Marywood College. The Owls put up a good fight however they were unable to outscore their opponents. Both Clarks Summit and Marywood College won 3-0 against the Owls.
Freshman Eliza Todd appeared in her first game since her injury and led the Owls with six kills, three serving aces, and two digs. Jessie Zong followed with 4 kills and 4 digs. Nolan Julien led the team with eight digs and 13 assist.
In the first match of the night against Marywood, Bryn Mawr got out to an early lead thanks to a kill by Jessie Zong from Nolan Julien (2-0). Marywood responded with their own kills which placed the teams at an early 2-2 tie. A block from Camille Baechler followed by a kill from Eliza Todd gave the Owls another spark of momentum to edge out the Pacers 5-3. Kills by Eliza Todd constantly kept the two teams tied up 5-5 (early on) and 7-7 (later in the frame). However, it was Marywood who went on a seven point run and later closed out the set with a 25-12 win over the Owls. Kills from Jessie Zong and Nolan Julien attempted to hold the Pacers back however it was not enough.
Marywood got to an early 8-2 advantage over the Owls in the second frame. A kill from Jess DeJoie was the Owls' response however it proved to not be enough as they swiftly jumped to another 13-9 lead over the Owls. Kills from Jessie Zong and Eliza Todd powered the Owls 5 point run cutting the deficit to just three points. The Owls had hope of closing out the set with a win. However, errors got in their way. Marywood closed out the frame 25-21.
The last frame began quite similar for both teams, Marywood got out to an early 6-1 lead over the Owls. The Owls were determined to clench a win. Kills from Jess DeJoie, Jessie Zong, Eliza Todd and Delia Landers powered the Owls in the final set. However, it was Marywood who closed out with 25-18 and a win over the Owls

In the final match of the night the Owls took on the host, Clarks Summit. A kill by Camille Baechler from Nolan Julien was the first play of the frame. Clarks Summit responded with their own intensity and went on a 13 point run, placing the Owls in a 12 point deficit early in the frame. Four back-to-back kills executed by Eliza Todd from Nolan Julien slowed down the Defenders' momentum and allowed the Owls to slowly chip away at the deficit 5-13. As the teams rallied back and forth, kills from Jess DeJoie and Camille Baechler aided in cutting the Defenders lead however it was Clarks Summitt who came out on top and closed out the frame 25-18.
The two teams found themselves at an early tie (2-2) in the second frame. A kill from Camille Baechler followed by a kill from Eliza Todd was just what the team needed to break away (4-3). The teams rallied back and forth, exchanging the lead multiple times. Kills executed by Camille Baechler and Eliza Todd powered the Owls during those plays, and allowed the Owls to take control of the game with their two point lead (8-6). The Defenders continued to battle back but the Owls continued to respond with each possession. It certainly was anyone's game for the taking. Bryn Mawr continued to maintain their lead for the majority of the set however, errors began to catch up with the Owls. Clarks Summit scored the last nine out of 11 points of the frame, ending the set in a 25-17 win.
A kill by Camille Baechler from Nolan Julien was the first play of the third frame. Thereafter Clarks Summit found their groove and got out to an early 5-1 lead over the Owls. The teams were knotted up again at 11 each, but a two point run pushed the Defenders ahead. A kill by Kara Brown ended the set, 25-17 in favor of the home team.
Eliza Todd led the Owls with eight kills, one serving ace, and five kills. Camille Baechler followed behind with six kills and eight digs. Delia Landers led the team in digs with a total of 9. Nolan Julien had 17 assist.
Bryn Mawr will be on the road again this Saturday facing Franklin and Marshall at 12 PM.
