Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Bryn Mawr volleyball was back in action in the Class of 1958 Gymnasium earlier Wednesday night for another non-conference tilt, this time taking on the Greyhounds of Moravian. The Owls put together another solid battle on the night, but ultimately lost in three sets to the visitors by a score of 25-18, 25-16, 25-17. Senior Caroline Cosby led Bryn Mawr with seven kills on the night while sophomore Camille Baechler chipped in another five on the night. Freshman setter Kira Ogoshi put in a strong performance with 10 assists and 8 digs on the night.
Bryn Mawr (2-7) got off to a strong start in the opening set, jumping out to a quick 7-3 lead early on. Baechler and Cosby each notched kills and Baechler and Nolan Julien both added a service ace as the Owls frazzled Moravian (8-5) early on. However, the tune quickly changed over the middle of the set, with the visitors vaulting ahead 18-11. Bryn Mawr was able to briefly slow the Greyhounds attack thanks to two attack errors and another ace from Julien. However, Moravian closed out the frame on a 7-4 run to claim the first set.
The Owls found tough sledding in the second set, as Moravian led wire-to-wire in that frame. The tough trend continued into the third set, but Bryn Mawr finally started to click midway through that period of play. Trailing 12-6 and at a time when the Owls easily could have folded, Bryn Mawr instead came together and put together some great rallies over that final stretch. Freshman Jessie Zong earned a kill with a well-placed ball deep into the corner, and then Baechler earned another kill of her own. Later, Cosby and Burnett tallied back-to-back kills, and then Sarah Whitten got in on the action with an unstoppable shot of her own. Unfortunately, it was just a little too late to swing the tide of the match, as Moravian squeaked away with the win in that set to take the 3-0 victory on the night.
Bryn Mawr will return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to McDaniel. The Owls have given the Green Terror a run for their money in recent meetings between the two programs. Currently, McDaniel is 5-9 on the season and mired in a three-match losing streak. Look for Bryn Mawr to try and get some positive momentum rolling on Saturday when they travel to Westminster for the 1:00 PM start.
