SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr tennis team closed out their unusually long road trip earlier Thursday afternoon with a contest at Swarthmore. Though the Owls put forth a great effort, they were unable to find much success overall against the Garnet, as the hosts picked up a 9-0 win on the day.
Swarthmore, the 13th-ranked team in the region, got the match off on the right foot in doubles. Bryn Mawr put up a good fight most of the way through, including a solid first doubles match featuring Melina Koukoutchos and Lizzie Siegle. That duo managed to gain some success throughout their contest, but ultimately could only take four games in a tough 8-4 loss. At third doubles, Em Prozinski and Abbygail Brewster won three games themselves, but their Swarthmore opponents came away with the 8-3 win at that spot. The hosts picked up an 8-0 win at the second spot to come away with the 3-0 sweep in doubles.
Those results gave the Garnet plenty of momentum headed into singles. They took a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles and a 6-2, 6-0 win at fourth to clinch the win in the match. The Owls did find some success at second singles, where Siegle put on a great showing. The sophomore fell behind 6-0 in the first set, but showed her mettle by battling through a tough second set. Siegle ultimately took the frame 7-5, forcing a tiebreak and looking for the lone Bryn Mawr win on the day. Unfortunately, she just ran out of points in the end, with Swarthmore's Arya Jemal winning the tiebreak in 10-7 fashion.
Today's result put the wrap on an incredibly long road trip for the Owls, as they have played their last eight contests away from Bryn Mawr. They'll gladly return to their home court to close out the season with three home matches, starting this Saturday. Bryn Mawr will welcome McDaniel to campus for a 12:00 PM match, which will also be the Senior Day celebration for the Owls' four seniors.
