Box Score 2 ABINGTON, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball team closed out their 2016 campaign earlier Saturday afternoon with a tri-match hosted by Penn State Abington. Facing some stiff competition on the day in the Nittany Lions and Goucher, the Owls posted plenty of positives on the day. Allie Nagelski moved into fourth place all-time in digs in school history with an impressive performance for the Owls defensively. Meanwhile, Camille Baechler posted a combined 16 kills to lead Bryn Mawr offensively. Unfortunately, the Owls were unable to make enough of a run in either contest, as they went 0-2 on the day with two 3-0 losses.
Bryn Mawr started out with a tough 3-0 loss to Abington in the morning match. The Owls got nine kills from Baechler in that contest, while Caroline Cosby, Sienna Burnett, and Sarah Whitten each added kills as well. Nagelski notched 23 digs, tied for the fourth-most in a three set match in Bryn Mawr volleyball history. Meanwhile, Kira Ogoshi added nine assists on the day. The Owls had a tough go in the opening two sets, but played some great volleyball in the third set to put a lot of pressure on the Nittany Lions. However, the hosts held on to win the set 25-23 and claim the 3-0 victory.
In the second contest, Nagelski repeated her terrific 23-dig performance, solidifying her spot in the record books as one of the best defensive players in Bryn Mawr volleyball history. Meanwhile, Baechler led the squad with seven kills, Whitten added five, and Cosby and Burnett also got in on the attack as well. The Owls played relatively clean volleyball most of the way through, posting 19 kills against just 15 errors. However, Goucher racked up 29 kills combined and did just enough to squeak past Bryn Mawr in three sets.
The Owls close out their season and now say goodbye to seniors Caroline Cosby, Allie Nagelski, and Lauren Shue, who each left tremendous marks on the program and will be missed next year!
