Box Score Westminster, Md. – The Bryn Mawr soccer team visited McDaniel for their first Centennial Conference road game of the season earlier Saturday afternoon, and unfortunately for the Owls, the Green Terror proved to be ungracious hosts. Bryn Mawr put together a solid defensive effort for the first 44:57 before a backbreaking own goal just seconds from halftime pegged them back. McDaniel would hold on for the 3-0 victory with two more goals in the second half, as the hosts outshot the Owls 22 to 5 on the day.
Bryn Mawr (4-5, 0-2 Cent.) actually got the first solid chance of the game when Madeline Mark took a shot just three minutes in. However, that chance sailed just wide of the frame after a deflection, and the ensuing corner kick was cleared out of danger. The Owls got another good luck just seven minutes later, this time off the foot of Marian Slocum. This time it was Green Terror goalkeeper Haley Jacobs who made the save and preserved the shutout. That would be the last offensive chance the Owls got in the half, as McDaniel (6-2-1, 1-1 Cent.) started to take control of the affair. Junior goalkeeper Aviva Kosansky made five saves of her own in the half to keep the game scoreless, but the Green Terror continued to press. With under ten seconds to go in the frame, Erica Diffendal took a shot that just made it over Kosansky's outreached hands, but rebounded off the crossbar. It appeared as if the Owls would get out of danger without any damage, but instead the ball glanced off a Bryn Mawr defender and trickled into the net with three seconds left to go before halftime.
That goal would be, unfortunately, the game-winner for McDaniel, as the Owls were unable to generate any offense in the second half. McDaniel extended their lead two times in the frame thanks to goals from Meghan Sturgill and Nicole Hill. Bryn Mawr managed to get two cracks at goal late in the half on shots by Veronica Roux and Anna Schoonover, but Green Terror goalkeeper Sarah McDonald made the saves to keep the shutout and earn the 3-0 win.
With the loss, Bryn Mawr slips just under .500 on the year, but they'll have a good shot at evening that record back up when they take on Ursinus next Wednesday. The Owls travel to Collegeville to take on a Bears squad that is currently 3-4-1 overall, but undefeated in conference play. This will also be the first night game of the season for Bryn Mawr with the contest scheduled for 7:30 under the lights.
