BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College tennis teams' season opener was delayed one day, but that didn't deter the Owls as they defeated Alvernia 7-2 in non-conference action Thursday afternoon.
Bryn Mawr's senior duo of Catherine Austin and Jenny Vogel set the tone for the day as they won their No. 2 doubles match 8-3 over Alyssa Boys and Kristy Schwenk. The No. 3 tandem of sophomores Kendall Baller and Molly MacDougall followed suit as they cruised to an 8-3 win also, defeating Lillian Hussar and Rachael Eberhardt.
With the Owls holding a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, Bryn Mawr didn't relinquish the lead as they won five of the six singles matches.
Leading the way for the Yellow and White was Vogel who cruised to a 6-1, 7-5, win over Boyd form the No. 2 spot. She doubles teammate, Austin, also won her match, the No. 5 slot, as she doubled-up Eberhardt 6-2. 6-2.
From the second position, junior Eliza Perocchi topped Becca Perkins 7-5, 6-1, while Baller rolled to a 6-4, 6-2, victory over Hussar. In the sixth spot, sophomore Tirsa Delate fell behind early but rebounded for the 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7), win over Schwenk.
The Owls are back to action this Saturday when they travel to Moravian for a 10:00 am match with the Greyhounds.
