Swarthmore Blanks Tennis in Conference Match
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – After moving the game from Bryn Mawr to Swarthmore due to rain in the area, the host Garnet cruised to a 9-0 win over the Owls Friday afternoon in conference play.
Swarthmore swept doubles action with the No. 2 team of Katie Samuelson and Brooke Wilkins defeated the junior duo of Jenny Vogel and Catherine Austin 8-0. The No. 1 tandem of junior Vivien Chen and freshman Melina Koukoutchos fell 8-2 to Lia Carlson and Emily Rosenblum while the No. 3 team of freshmen Kendall Baller and Molly MacDougall lost by the same score.
In singles play, Chen was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Carlson in the No. 1 position while Vogel lost to Rosenblum 6-2, 6-0, in the No. 2 slot. From the third position, Koukoutchos did battle with Samuelson but eventually fell 8-2 as Baller dropped her No. 4 match 6-2, 6-1, to Jackie Lane. From the No. 5 position, Austin dropped her match to Gayatri Iyengar 6-1, 6-3, before freshman Tirsa Delate lost her No. 6 match to Wilkins 6-3, 6-4.
The Owls are back on the court as they travel to McDaniel tomorrow, Saturday, April 20, for a 1:00 pm match with the Green Terror.
