GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg swept doubles before winning all six singles matches as they cruised to a 9-0 win over visiting Bryn Mawr College Saturday in Centennial Conference action.
In doubles action, the No.2 duo of junior Catherine Austin and freshman Melina Koukoutchos fell to Meghan Fornshell and Laura Habecker, 9-7, in the best doubles match of the afternoon.
At No. 1 doubles, juniors Vivien Chen and Jenny Vogel also fell by two as Isabelle Rodriguez and Bev Keyes escaped with an 8-6 victory. In the third spot, sophomore Rachel Genovese and freshman Molly MacDougall suffered an 8-5 setback.
Playing the No. 1 singles position, Chen was defeated by Caroline Haymans 6-4, 6-3, while Vogel was shutout 6-0, 6-0, by Rodriguez. Koukoutchos dropped her number three match 6-1, 6-1, while freshman Kendall Baller was defeated 6-1, 6-2, by Habekcer. From the fifth spot, Austin fell 6-1, 6-1, and freshman Tirsa Delate lost 6-2, 6-2, in the sixth position.
The Owls are back to court on Friday, March 29, when they host the University of the Sciences at 4:00 pm on the Main Line.
