HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College tennis suffered their first setback of the spring season as they fell to rival Haverford 9-0 in Centennial Conference action Friday afternoon.
The match, which was scheduled to be played outdoors at Bryn Mawr, was moved inside at Haverford due to the bitter cold weather on the Main Line.
In doubles action, the No. 1 tandem of juniors – Vivien Chen and Jenny Vogel – fell to Alex Ferrara and Caitlin Gallagher 8-1. Junior Catherine Austin teamed-up with freshman Melina Koukoutchos at No. 2 doubles, but were banked 8-0 while the No.3 duo of freshman Kendall Baller and sophomore Rachel Genovese fell 8-1.
During singles play, No. 1 Chen fell to Gallagher 6-1, 6-3 before Vogel lost her number two bout 6-2, 6-0. Playing in third singles, Koukoutchos fell 6-0, 6-1, to Robyn Himelstein while Baller was blanked by Celia Tong 6-0, 6-0. In the fifth spot, Austin fell 6-2, 6-4, to Alyssa Lavin while freshman Tirsa Delate fell 6-1, 6-0.
The Owls are back to action when they travel to Gettysburg on Saturday, March 22, for a 1:00 pm match with the Bullets.
