ORLANDO, Fla. – The Bryn Mawr College tennis team opened up their 2013 spring season with a pair of wins over East Texas Baptist and Judson on their Spring Break trip to Florida.
On Sunday, the Owls defeated East Texas Baptist 7-2. Bryn Mawr swept doubles action as the No. 1 team of junior Vivien Chen and senior Jenny Vogel won 8-5. The No. 2 tandem of junior Catherine Austin and freshman Melina Koukoutchos won 9-7 while junior Kendall Baller and sophomore Rachel Genovese won at No. 3 doubles 8-5.
In singles action, four Owls posted victories led by freshman Tirsa Dilate in the No. 6 spot and Vogel playing No. 2, as they earned 6-2, 6-1 wins. In third spot, Koukoutchos defeated Kim Ledbetter 6-3, 6-2 while Austin won her No. 5 match 6-3, 6-1.
Monday morning, Bryn Mawr cruised to a 6-3 win of Judson University. Bryn Mawr took a 2-1 lead into singles after the No. 2 tandem of Austin and Koukoutchos rolled to an 8-1 win while the No.3 duo of Baller and Genovese won 8-3.
Baller paced the Owls in singles as she won her No. 4 showdown 6-1, 6-1 over Kristie Shales. Austin was victorious at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 decision. Vogel posted a 6-4, 6-3 No. 2 win while Koukoutchos topped Kristen Kress 6-3, 4-6 (6) at the third slot.
Due to rain in Orlando, Tuesday mornings match with Roger Williams has been postponed. No match-up date has been announced. The F&M match is still scheduled to be played.
