Tennis Starts Season with 7-2 Win Over Immaculata

BRYN MAWR, Pa. –The 2012 Bryn Mawr College tennis opened their season in style as they claimed a 7-2 win over visiting Immaculata in non-league action Tuesday afternoon.

The Owls opened the day with the No. 1 duo of junior classmates Vivien Chen and Jenny Vogel cruising to an 8-2 win. The No. 3 team of freshman Kendall Baller and sophomore Rachel Genovese defeated Julie Einwechter and Oliva Kauffman 8-5.

At the No. 2 doubles slot, the tandem of sophomore Chloe Barron and junior Eliza Perocchi went the distance and then some against Paige Sparks and Kara Trowbidge. In a back-and-forth match that saw the scored knotted at 2, 3 and 6-points; it took overtime to determine the winner. After starting strong in the tiebreaker, Barron/Perocchi stayed with their opponents until strong service from Trowbridge gave the Mighty Macs the upper hand and eventually the 7-4 tie break advantage.

In singles action, Perocchi defeated Paige Sparks 6-1, 6-1, from the top spot while Chen was victorious 6-3, 6-3, from the second position. Playing 3rd singles, Vogel rolled to a 6-1, 6-0, win as Baller claimed a 6-2, 6-3, win over Einwechter in the fifth position. At No. 6, Barron defeated Kauffman 6-1, 6-0.

Bryn Mawr is back to action on Monday, Sept. 24, when they host Rosemont at 4:00 pm.
