BRYN MAWR, Pa.– Three of the four seniors on the Bryn Mawr College tennis team claimed victory Wednesday afternoon as the Owls soared past Ursinus 6-3 in their final match of the season. Before the start of the match, seniors Zoe Odenwalder, Elizabeth Olecki, Anna Perocchi and Melanie Shafer, were honored and presented a team photo and flowers for their hard work and dedication to the program the last four years.
The afternoon started slowly for the Owls as the Bears held a 2-1 lead following doubles action. The No. 2 tandem of sophomore classmates Vivien Chen and Jenny Vogel defeated Dana McDonough and Jessica Tyrell 8-2.
The No.1 duo of A. Perrochi and sophomore Eliza Perocchi were defeated 8-4 while the sophomore Catherine Austin and Odenwalder fell 8-6.
The Owls turned the ride in singles as they claimed five wins for their third dual match victory of the year. Leading the charge was the trio of seniors Odenwalder, A. Perocchi and Shafer. In the top spot, A. Perocchi defeated Jimena Talavera 6-2, 6-0, for her ninth win of the season and fifth against conference opponents.
Primarily a doubles player, Shafer scored a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, victory in her sixth singles match of the year. On the season, Shafer is 4-2 in singles play and the win was her third straight. In the sixth position, Odenwalder claimed a 6-4, 6-1, win over Sydeny Dodson-Nease, her ninth win of the season and fifth in league action.
In other singles play, Chen netted a 6-1, 6-4, win over Tyrrell from the second slot. Leading the Owls to victory was No. 3 sophomore Jenny Vogel. Not only did Vogel have to come back from 3-6 first set setback, she rolled the next two sets into 6-4, 6-2, victories. Her win with the team scores notched at 3-3, lifted Bryn Mawr to their second conference win of the season.
The Owls finish the season 4-18 overall and 2-8 in Centennial Conference action.
