Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The 2011 edition of the Bryn Mawr College field hockey took to the newly renovated Applebee Field Friday afternoon as they kicked off their season when they played host to Hood College.
The Blazers dominated the opening five minutes of action by keeping the ball on the offensive. Their steady attack paid off when Maria Smith took a pass from Ashely Darling and beat Owls' goalie Faith Westdorp for the games' first goal.
Just over ten minutes later Rachel Gannon found the back of the cage on a Chelsea Young feed to give Hood a 2-0 lead. Darling added to Hood's lead with a goal of her own at 25:58.
In the second half, Megan Cahill gave Hood a 4-0 lead when she went between the pipes just over two minutes into the half.
Many Steinfeld got the Owls on the board when she tallied her first goal of season at 50:01. After gaining a penalty corner, Steinfeld found a loss ball in front of the cage and flung it by Ashley Stennett who came out to challenge the shot.
Cahill added another goal three minutes later to secure Hood's first win of the season.
The Blazers outshot the Owls 20-12 and held a 9-5 advantage on penalty corners.
In the cage for Bryn Mawr, Westdorp posted 12 saves. Megan Rongone recorded a defensive save in the opening half while Isadora Armentrout took a team-best five shots.
Bryn Mawr is back to action tomorrow when they travel to Baltimore, Md., for a 1:00 pm contest against the College of Notre Dame.
