BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Visiting Goucher College swept doubles action then went on to win 4-of-6 singles matches to defeat the Owls 7-2 in Bryn Mawr's season opener.
In singles play, the top player, senior Anna Perocchi, defeated Lindsey Libaw 6-1, 6-3, in straight sets. With the win, Perocchi has started each of her four seasons as an Owl with a victory.
The other winner, sophomore Catherine Austin, playing in the No. 6 position defeated Alyssa Zick in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Rounding out singles play was sophomore Eliza Perocchi falling to Meaghan Lee 5-7, 1-6, in the second spot while sophomore Vivien Chen dropped her match to Ariel Lin 2-6, 0-6, from the third spot. In the fourth position, sophomore Jenny Vogel lost to Kelsey Turner 3-6, 5-7, and senior Melanie Shafer fell in the 5th slot to Kelsey Turner 6-7(5), 7-5, 3-10
In doubles action, the sister tandem of Anna and Eliza Perocchi dropped their No. 1 match to Lee/Libaw 6-8. From the second position, Chen and Vogel fell to Lin/Turner 4-8, and the freshman duo of Chloe Barron and Rachel Genovese lost to Vickey Casey and Alexandra Walsh 3-8.
Bryn Mawr is right back to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they travel to Immaculata for a 1:00 pm contest with the Mighty Macs.
