Owls Soar Across Princeton and Ursinus in Strong Weekend

PRINCETON, NJ & COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Two Owls took flight on Friday night to start the weekend in two states. Lauren Kitay ran the 1500m at the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton. Kitay finished in 4:55, improving upon her time from two weeks ago. Nora Steil was also in action on Friday night, throwing 30.56m in the hammer throw at the Ursinus Track and Field Festival. Both Owls hit qualifying marks for the Centennial Conference Championships. The rest of the team was back in action on Saturday at Ursinus, earning 15 new PRs and 14 qualifying marks.

Highlights:
  • SPRINTS/HURDLES: The 100HH was a clean sweep for the Owls with two first-years running collegiate PRs. Mika Heshiki lowered her qualifying mark from two weeks ago to 18.91s, while teammate Dahlia Nemes qualified with 19.64s. The 100m looked very much the same for the Owls, with all four sprinters running season bests or PRs. Awurabena Anane led the group with a time of 13.23s, with Kayla Camille (13.37s) right on her heels. Kayla Spencer also qualified for championships running 14.10s, and Shelbey Lu closed out the group with a season best (14.47s). Anane doubled back in the afternoon to pick up a second qualifying mark, running 28.18s in the 200m. Novy Goetgeluk led the 400m group out with a 61.71s to qualify with a new PR. Spencer ran 70.56. Two mid-distance runners dropped down to join them with Phylicia Cannon setting a PR in 70:92s and Alyson Bostrom setting a season best in 72.06s. Nemes wrapped up an impressive day on the track with a 6s PR in the 400 hurdles.
  • JUMPS: Jess Johnson finished the triple jump with a 10.70m mark, setting the junior in the top 100 for NCAA DIII triple jumpers for the first time this season. Colby Rossmassler cleared 1.35m and qualified for championships in the high jump. Johnson cleared 1.45m soon after Rossmassler for 4th place. Johnson returned for the long jump and earned a season best of 4.79m. Heshiki finished the group off at jumps with a season best of 2.58m in the pole vault, improving upon her qualifying mark from two weeks ago.
  • THROWS: Steil began the weekend with a season best of 30.56m in the hammer throw. The attempt qualified the senior from Minnesota for Centennial Conference Championships. On Saturday, Steil returned to the ring, throwing 8.75m in shot put for a new season best and 26.26m in discus.
  • DISTANCE: Kitay ran 4:55.09 in the 1500m on Friday night, while her teammates were back in the event on Saturday. Cora Rosin led the charge, finishing in 5:33.06. Emma Smirk PR'd with a time of 5:45.56 and Madelynne Johns returned to the track with a season best of 6:00.75. In the 800m, Malin Just (2:21.61) and Kitay (2:21.79) some of the fastest times in Owls outdoor track and field history. Megan McDonald also picked up a new PR, running 2:40.01. Sohini Sarkar finished off the group, running 21:47.96 in the 5k.  
  • RELAYS: The team of Heshiki, Anane, Camille, and Spencer, ran a season best time of 52.77s in the 4x100m relay.
