2/15/2025 7:31:00 PM

NEW YORK, NY – The Owls competed in the NYU DIII Invitational earlier Saturday, where senior Lauren Kitay secured a rare NYC Armory victory, racing to a massive personal record (PR) in the mile. Kitay's time of 5:17.22 not only placed her in the top five of the College All-Time records but also marked the first recorded collegiate win for an Owl at the NYU DIII Invitational.

Highlights:
  • Sprints/Hurdles: While the Owls dashed valiantly through the short sprints and hurdles, they did not advance to the finals. However, the afternoon brought success. Mika Heshiki clocked an impressive 28.40s for a new PR, while senior Kayla Camille dipped under 29 seconds for the first time in nearly three years, setting her season best at 28.93.
  • Jumps: In the triple jump, Jess Johnson advanced to the finals, securing a 7th-place finish with a leap of 10.86m. Johnson also competed in the high jump, where she cleared 1.50m to place 9th overall.
  • Throws: Kicking off the competition for the Owls, Nora Steil stepped into the shot put ring, unleashing her best throw of the day at 9.17m on her final attempt. In the weight throw, Steil recorded three tosses past the 10m mark, with her best reaching 10.46m.
  • Distance: Kitay's mile victory headlined the distance events, but she wasn't the only Owl making strides. Emma Smirk (6:01.85) notched a new mile PR, while Malin Jus finished 4th in the 800m, shaving tenths off her previous best. Teammate Phylicia Cannon clocked 2:48.69 in the 800m. In the 3K, Eva Ackley (11:23.17) dipped under 11:30 for the second time in two weeks, while Sohini Sarkar added another PR to the record books with a time of 13:21.28.
  • Relays: The Owls capped off their trip to the Big Apple with the 4x400m relay. Dahlia Nemes led off, recording her first sub-70s 400m of the season. Cora Rosin and Phylicia Cannon kept the team in strong position, while Emma Smirk anchored the squad to a final time of 4:52.98.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday, February 22nd, at the Keogh Invitational hosted by Haverford. Tune in to live results on gobrynmawr.com and follow @bmcathletics to stay up to date with your favorite Bryn Mawr teams.
