WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr outdoor track & field team competed in their season opener earlier Saturday afternoon to place 4th at the Purple and Gold Invitational hosted by West Chester University.
Highlights:
- Sprints: Novy Goetgeluk won the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.11s, making her the first Owl to qualify for Centennial Conference Championships this season. She was joined by Awurabena Anane (13.99s) who also qualified for championships. Molly Fancher just missed the qualifying mark but set a collegiate personal record in 14.49s. Kayla Camille ran 14.78s, while Nethmi Dharmasena rounded out the group with a collegiate personal record of 15.68s.
- Distance: Malin Just (5:20.51) finished 6th in the 1500 meter dash. She was joined by Caroline Robertson (5:37.33), Lauren Kitay (5:41.84), and Sofie Prieto (5:46.39). Megan McDonald rounded out the group with a new personal record (5:49.55). In the 800 meter, Cora Rosin (2:52.17) led the Owls to finish 6th in the event, while Anna Lowrance finished with a time of 3:20.15.
- Throws: Nora Steil finished 11th in the Discus (19.88m) but made the finals in the Hammer. Ceded in 8th place, Steil bested her mark on her final attempt (25.34m) to move into 5th place overall in the event and qualify for championships.
- Relays: Despite the cold and rainy conditions, the team of Goetgeluk, Adjoa Acquaah, Camille, and Anane ran 54.26s in the 4x100 relay.
- Due to excessive rain and inclement weather, Shot Put and all jumping events were cancelled.
The Bryn Mawr track & field team will return on April 5
th for the Ursinus College Track & Field Festival.
