ABINGTON, Pa. - The Owls win their second match of the season this Wednesday on the road against Penn-St. Abington. Bryn Mawr triumphed over the Nittany Lions with a 7-2 win, claiming two doubles and five singles matches.
The day began with the doubles lineup. Jill Hohmann and Macey Ellis took the first win for Bryn Mawr, refusing to give up any games, winning the match 8-0. Mary Rose Gilliand and Adrianna Morsey won the second doubles match for the Owls, only letting up one game to the Nittany Lions, claiming an 8-1 game score. Kelly Cole and Gioanna Zhao played a close match, but Penn St. Abington took the last doubles match at 8-6.
Going into singles, the Owls led 2-1. Junior Mary Rose Gilliand was the first to step off the court, winning her match 6-0, 6-0. Next was first-year Macey Ellis, who only let up one game to her opponent, winning her match 6-0, 6-1. Similar to Ellis, senior Lili Randolph only let up one game against the Nittany Lions, winning her match 6-1, 6-0. Her win clinched Bryn Mawr their second win of the season. Senior Jojo Greenberg and junior Kelly Cole won the team their sixth and seventh win, winning their matches 6-0, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-2 respectively. Jill Hohmann competed in a tough match at second singles, but ultimately lost her match 6-4, 6-1.
Overall, Bryn Mawr beat Penn-St. Abington (7-2) to earn their second win of the season. The Owls will return home on Friday to welcome Immaculata to campus.
